Disappearing Blog

Sunday Oct 11, 2009

It’s been an interesting week with a lot of technical issues: My recipe blog has literally “disappeared,” first of all. It’s simply not there. All the files have disappeared. I am dumbfounded. I think it happened when I was backing up. Pressed the wrong button? Tears have shed, as I’ve put hundreds of hours into the thing. I hadn’t backed up in a while, so I can only hope that I can salvage some of it…

The other deal is that I started online classes with an eikaiwa school. That’s how desperate I am for income! Not to diss the industry, but… well, let’s be honest, motives are profit-oriented only, meaning they give the student what they want, which is not necessarily what they need or in their best interests. There is also a large margin between what’s charged to the student and what’s received by the teacher. Let’s hear it for capitalism! I am not being entirely sarcastic, please note.

So, anyway, the classes are interesting, and the technology is good, but when something goes wrong online, it can be stressful… Or at least, I get stressed. It is also disconcerting if the student can see you but you cannot see them. I had skype on in the background for tech support and some creep rang me up in the middle of a lesson. Didn’t have the settings on right, obviously…

And no, it has NOT been a good idea to stop my daily blogs. I have not only gone to less that 50% raw, but I’ve added breads on an almost regular basis, and due to PMS have succumbed to processed chocolate. It could be worse, but no, I am not proud of myself. I’ve been a bit busy and this has not helped, but it’s not excuse. I ate some today.

Today I had:

green smoothie
cauliflower with nutritional yeast & potato
genmai onigiri with natto
snickers bar
red wine

WordPress has that plugin. You can go to www.wordpress.org to download the program and you should be able to use your design and format with a few tweaks. My daughter used to use Drupal but she converted her blog to WordPress.

I've been through blog sorrows and it can really get you down. I use WordPress on mine and I have it set up to back up daily (nightly) and send the file as an email attachment. Keeps the headaches away! Good luck!
  • Hi rawmom! This response is extremely delayed, but may I ask: How do you set your blog up to automatically back up? Sounds like the kind of solution I need!
