I went into town today to have dinner at a vegan restaurant just off Omotesando Street that I’d been dying to try- the Brown Rice Café. The food was awesome, as was the organic beer, which was more like a mead. Cooked? Yes. Unhealthy? No. The other 2 classes of wine and gobo chips we had at Pronto were less than desirable though. I really love Aoyama! A great evening with great company.
Today I had:
green smoothie
fruit mush
steamed veggies, brown rice, miso soup
beer
red wine
burdock root chips

I made another avocado-based pudding today, this time with oranges and lemons. Yum! Lots of fat in a whole avocado (much more than a day’s worth) but boy, was it yummy. And yes, I did share some. I also made a simple Asian slaw, seeing as the cabbage in my fridge was starting to look less than fresh. I started and finished an editing project today. Feels good to have finished something! Also watch a couple of cheesy action flicks, one being “Wanted” with Angelina Jolie. That woman really is a stunner!
Today I ate:
green smoothie
lemon-orange pudding
Asian slaw
red wine
carrots

Found a really tasty raw pudding recipe on YouTube (see below) and had to try it. Yum! If you like lemony, this is for you! The countdown to school starting is commencing. I was planning to go into the university today to prepare some materials, but thankfully I had the foresight to call: Yep, not officially open yet. So, I spent yet another delightful day in front of my home computer. No complaints at all.
Today I had:
pears
miso soup leftovers (not as good cold)
green salad with avocado and olives
green papaya pudding
nori veggie wraps
green salad with sesame and black olives
red wine
boiled mame(soy beans in the skin) with sea salt

I just realized I have missed a day somewhere in my journal. The post titles read fine, but Sept. 15th is nowhere to be found. Oh well, far from perfect am I! Despite it being a gorgeous day today, I spent most of it indoors, enjoying the Canadian-summer-like weather coming into all the open windows. Yes, the humidity has dissipated, seemingly for good now. Evenings on the bicycle can even be defined as cool, I have started to put cream on my face again, and my athlete’s food and other humidity-related skin afflictions have disappeared. I love the fall season in any country, but especially in Japan, as it comes as a reward for having made it through the summer. This year, it must be said however, has not been as bad as previous years. I have actually only spent a few summers in Japan over the last 15, so I’m grateful that this year was not the hottest. Next year I’ll be back in the Montreal-Ottawa area, as my little brother is getting married!
Today I had:
leftover green smoothie
pear
hot raw miso soup with daikon, myoga, and wakame(Wow! I’m getting better with the raw miso thing.)
orange smoothie
green salad
vegan pizza
date-nut balls

A great raw Saturday! Lots of Sunshine pouring through the windows, and I even took a little walk (have been very lazy since the dog left) It was one of those successful domestic weekend days when you only plan to do one thing (clean out the closet in my case) but end up doing several (organizing shelves, cleaning the kitchen, finishing a work project) Yippie! Did not have a meal today, really, but spent some time in the kitchen throwing things together nonetheless.
Today I had:
green smoothie
pear
orange-pecan smoothie
nori rolls with avocado, ruccula, natto, and carrot paste
raw date-nut balls
zucchini pasta with tomato sauce (yes, this is just too fast, easy, and tasty not to have often!)
black olives
nori (as it)

I had a friend over for a visit today. It’s so nice to have company! However, I ended up succumbing to the call to Cappriciosa, a favorite Italian eatery. I think there was even cheese in the sauce, and let me tell you, an hour after, I knew for sure! It’s truly amazing how sensitive my body is becoming, for better or worse. Not really a good raw day, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Today I had:
pear (Yum! I bought a batch of hard-to-find western pears yesterday!)
tomato-garlic pasta
tomatoes and garlic bread
green Italian salad
coffee
banana

I slept in through most of the morning today, largely in part to having stayed up all night configuring and playing with my new iPhone. The grueling part of manually imputing contact info that was previously only on my AU cell phone now MUST begin, as otherwise I’ll have to haul two phones around with me. I should have everything on my PC anyway… which reminds me, my MAC address book is also a mess. Another thing I will be forced to deal with soon is all the photos stored on my old phone. (Sadly, the iPhone’s camera is not as good as my old cell.) Oh well, there is nothing like necessity for making you get things done! I helped my roommate buy a bike this afternoon as well, which was very time consuming. We ended up going to Salvatores’s for dinner as well, so I definitely ate mostly cooked today.
Today I had:
green smoothie (with fresh Japanese pears today)
non-cheese, fresh tomato pizza at Salvatore’s (seriously, THE best pizza anywhere, hands down)
fresh lemon juice
nut-date balls

I experimented with raw food today, making a new humus recipe, which wasn’t half-bad, fiddling around with herbs in my tomato sauce, and adding different spices to my lara bars. (I think I have a favorite now, which includes the works: cacao powder and nibs, cinnamon, coconut…) All this kitchen activity occurred despite a disaster this morning: My green smoothie dropped onto my computer keyboard. All is well now, but I wonder about things growing out of it later… The rest of the day disappeared in various computer-based projects.
Today I had:
green smoothie
cabbage with carrot pâté
humus and broccoli
natto
raw date-nut balls
nori (as is- a snack!)
red wine

I sent off my roommate Yukiko and dog Leo to the airport this morning. It’s really going to be sad to see them go. They were supposed to stay longer but things do not always pan out as expected. After a tearful goodbye, I headed to a raw food event in town. Somehow I got the times mixed up and arrived at 3 instead of 6, so decided to get my hair cut and window shop while waiting. Was rather hungry by the time evening arrived. I spent a lovely time meeting new friends (one is a raw food chef: http://oixi.jp/mihokosakai/) and chatting with old. Great food of course - very raw!
Today had:
green smoothie
raw juice
falafel, humus, greens, flax crackers, pate, nori rolls…
red wine

Today I spent a lovely day with 4 incredible gals in Tsukuba, Ibakari. After a yummy lunch at cafe NON (I had greens while the rest chowed down cow patties- no, not THOSE cow patties), and a little walk through an expansive, serene park, we took a tour of award-winning scientist Marcy’s shrimp research facilities, checked out the huge, tree-lined campus of Tsukuba University where Kristi is doing gender studies research, went over to Kristi’s for a wee visit (and I gratefully grabbed some of her unneeded clothing), and then went to what I think must be the biggest and loveliest shopping mall in Japan. I thought I was in the US! I resorted to cooked vegan for the evening, however. Surprisingly, despite the dicing and splicing of shrimp eyeballs etc. with the financial help of a government whose interests lie getting the little guys sexually active so we can eat even more of them, I was not put off as much as I thought I would be. Maybe because it is too big?
Today I had:
green smoothie
green salad
nan and vegan curry
banana

date-nut balls
red wine

I went to a great Amnesty International event this evening, and met up with lovely friend and colleague, Kristie Collins. A documentary about foreign workers in Japan called “Sour Strawberries” was shown, and I bought a copy as it might come in handy in the classroom. Debito (of http://debito.org) was there in the flesh as well. (He’s Japan’s gaijin activist.) I ate tonight too, a great vegan-friendly salad.
Today I had:
psyllium husk shake with apple juice X 3
green powder drinks
giant salad with avocado, tomato, tofu, and basil sauce
baked potatoes and a few fries (oops)

I finished writing my Twitter paper today, so before I send it off to a national journal for EFL, I’ve sent it to my esteemed colleague Haruko to check that it does not contain too much crapola. It was day 2 on liquids for me, though one of those liquids included a small cup of coffee. No, this is not detoxifying, and hardly alkaline, but boy, does it add another level of hyper focus when you are trying to wrap up a project! It’s nice that my body, despite the coffee, seems to fall into detox mode very quickly now (or is this my imagination?). Yesterday was a bit of a drag, but today I wasn’t hungry, had great levels of concentration, eliminated 4 times, and felt very light and happy.
Today I had:
juiced apples with water and psyllium husk powder X 4
cup of coffee
lemon juice and honey
green powder and water X 2
