Well, the PMS of yesterday was justified. I am in a bit of monthly pain at the moment. My raw life does not seem to have amended that issue for me. I also went off the wagon today, without remorse or dire consequence - indulging in cooked rice, although it was home-fermented, pre-germinated brown rice - not exactly unhealthy. I made one of my favorite salads and made “ice cream” too, all of which satisfied my emotional needs. Wasn’t a bad day all in all.
I ate:
a green smoothie (greens- dunno what they were, kiwis, mango, honey, wheat grass powder)
berry mix smoothie with mango
Asian Slaw (cabbage, carrots, peppers, soy sauce, honey, pepper, lemon, ginger, apple cider vinegar, sesame seeds (roasted-can’t be helped))
banana frozen “ice cream” with crushed pecans and cocoa powder
red wine (organic with no preservative , as usual. Am really loving this!)
As this BBC Horizon documentary shows, it’s more than how we eat that determines our longevity. Also of concern are our environment, our genes, our stress levels, our sense of purpose, human relations, attitude, sense of humour, and even religion.
After a lie in that was well-deserved, I awoke with far less muscle pain that I had anticipated, but did notice that I had caught a few more rays yesterday than I’d thought. Yasu drove me to the Yokohama Costco on the way home, and a good thing too, as most produce was considerably cheaper than in the Machida branch. We reasoned that this is likely because Yokohama is a port city and there are few transportation costs. I bought as much as I thought I could eat over the next few days without having to worry about stuff going bad. And YES, I got a new blender- a 700 Watt Hamilton Beach blender that was on sale. I still want one of those blenders that have more than twice the power, but they come at 6-7 times the price. I tested it on a smoothie and it worked just fine. Stuffed a few cashew nuts into my humus and my new blender didn’t seem to feel it. Very big and high-tech looking too. Very pleased.
Today I had:
bananas
goji berries, currents, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, almonds trail mix
mango, kiwi, and spinach smoothie
carrots, broccoli, daikon, and cucumbers dipped in miso humus
organic red wine
Professor Leslie Regan of the BBC investigates health claims in this 5-part series below. Food for thought indeed.
I spent almost the entire day today (yes, it’s Golden Week and I’m off!) reconfiguring this blog to a new domain name. I followed a whole bunch of Word Press instructions I happened upon on the Net, but I must have done something wrong because I lost ALL of the links I had painstakingly researched. Not to worry, or so I thought, as I have not yet erased the old database and domain. I had been using a free co.cc domain that I reconfigured to point to my new .com domain, but this pointer I set up went into action a little faster than I anticipated. In order to rebuild my links list from scratch, I have to consult the old domain, but that domain now points to the new one, so I can’t access it! I have to go to co.cc to put the pointer back to the old DNS, but I’ve forgotten what it was and can’t figure out how to find it on my hosting site… Gees, very much wish I’d studied programming in university. Not that it would necessarily help me, as so much has changed since my university days (I was using MOSAIC in grad. school. Ummm, my age must be showing there…), but at least I’d have a sound background…
Maybe I really should have studied computing, actually, as time just wisks away when I am at it and I can’t say it’s not interesting. Then again, the troubleshooting is soooo infuriating. I do not subside in a computer savvy community.
Today I had:
green smoothie (spinach, mango, frozen pineapple and papaya, honey
2 enormous salads (mixed greens, ruccola, avocado, olive oil, balsamic v., apple cider v., crushed walnuts)
frozen banana, honey, cocoa powder and remaining avocado mush (I broke the fricken’ blender on the frozen banana- ended up stabbing the ingredients to make mush and cursing the low watt blender I was using that failed the test. To make matters worse the blender was my roommate’s, so now I have to replace it as well as invest in a machine of my own that does at the stuff I want it to!)
organic red wine (oh yes.)
Way too much fat today in the full avocado, 2 teaspoons of oil, and the nuts I had, but what the hell- have to eat the avocados before they go off, and heck, what is salad w/o a “smidgkin” of oil? Still raw and healthy… I’ve some work to do to reach only 10% fat, though.
The BBC has some good stuff out these days. Yes, I do like to post video. I personally find that visual and auditory presentation is the most effective way to present information. Wish I could apply more of it to my EFL classes. My poor students have simply to listen to the droning of my own voice day in day out- they’d really benefit from some added visuals!

Seriously, I don’t understand how people can continue to trust the meat and poultry industry after seeing stuff like this. If they were all real farms in stead of factories, then who knows, maybe even I would still be a meat eater, but these days, who can you trust? And if you give a flying F%&$ about animal welfare, man, just stop turning a blind eye! When, in history, have you ever been able to really trust what any country’s government says regarding food? The US STILL has the food pyramid screwed up. It boggles the mind.
